The cuisine is elegant as Scandinavian flavours meet the Manhattan pulse. A relaxed atmosphere where food, service and surroundings are of equal importance. The menu showcases the creative spirit of Head Chef, Marcus Samuelsson.

The concept is not fine dining, but rather a more relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant is long and sleek, with contemporary design elements.

The hotel’s 558 rooms feature interior design distinguished by its clean lines and timeless appearance, with comfortable beds, carefully planned tables and desks, a mini-bar and a flat-screen television. Each floor is dedicated to a classic Scandinavian designer, reflected in the interiors of the rooms.

Area information

What happens now?
The old part of the square will be supplemented with new apartments, the Clarion Hotel Sign, stores, offices and more green areas. Norra Bantorget will be a square with a genuine park atmosphere, while another smaller square is being developed just around the corner. The whole area will be greener. The streets are being redeveloped and newly equipped, and new trees are being planted.

What was there before?
In the area by Norra Bantorget, there used to be 2 prisons (one for men and one for women) and an orphanage. The orphanage was situated on the corner of Drottninggatan and was the key landmark in the area. There was also a prison – Cellfängelset – which provided a more lenient form of punishment than its predecessor, Smedjegården, which housed the dreaded torture chamber Rosenkammaren. King Gustav III abolished Rosenkammaren and other forms of torture and society took a step towards being more humane. In 1826, the old prison buildings were converted into a correctional institution that was famous for having a programme to rehabilitate its inmates back into society. The building eventually became the Norrmalm city prison.

In the middle of all this there was also a small church, similar in style to an English country chapel, which was built in 1866 at the same time as the railroad. In the 1860s, the railway network’s main terminals were located at Södra Bantorget (Medborgarplatsen) at Norra Bantorget, and the old station house is still there today. In 1871, the 2 lines were merged and the central station was officially opened.
Carlbergska huset, now known as the "LO-borgen", was built at the turn of the century. It was designed as a private residence by Ferdinand Boberg. The entire block was built between 1903 and 1909. Intima Teatern, August Strindberg’s own theatre, opened in the adjoining building in 1907.

The room and the location.

The hotel is beautiful but the price comparing with what you have it's
shameless. I stayed two days whitout soaps and shampos and the breakfast
was too busy with a huge queue.

Very friendly staff that took all the time needed to explain our questions on whereabouts in Stockholm, benchmark behaviour!

Cabinet for storing your clothes & bathroom were a bit on the small side for a 4-star hotel.

The interior design and the location of the Hotel

The Reception.Lounge and Bar are too small for the size of the Hotel.They host many big groups and they are a very disturbing factor for the individual traveller in these locations.

Very convinient location, very friendly and helpfull stuff, thank you Aida, very nice breakfast, Perfect Bed!

the almost transparent toilette door makes life difficult. The pool, the sauna and the gym should be free for hotel customers

Location, cleanliness, efficiency. Rooms were basic but nice and the beds were comfortable. Service was brisk and helpful.

It was too much of a business/conference hotel and was somewhat impersonal - too big and too busy. Though the buffet selection was impressive, one felt like cattle being herded. Stockholm is a very expensive city but I was surprised that this hotel was listed as "deluxe."

It is close to the central station and the city terminal of the airport bus

The internet was actually not free, unlike what the facility section of the boooking.com said. There was a big construction site in front of the hotel.

Perfect location close to Central Station (both, for arriving from airport and for commuting during days), new property, contemporary design with smart solutions. I was a little afraid of noise from trains coming to CT just behind the hotel, but there was really not a tiniest sound related thereto. High scandinavian standard in everything, including the bill :)

The hotel lacks any type of atmosphere or character. If you like straight lines and minimalism then this hotel is for you. If you want to feel atmosphere or character go elsewhere. Also the bathroom is in a wetroom style, and wetting the room is what the shower does best. Toilet seat, toilet paper, towels etc ended up as wet as me. A complete drydown of the bathroom was required after thje shower!
